I'm Too Dumb

I'm Too Dumb is a plain-English explainer for U.S. consumer credit card paperwork, at https://imtoodumb.com/. It has three tools: a statement explainer, an online account screenshot explainer, and a promotional offer letter explainer. Each one reads a document the user uploads and explains what it says in ordinary language. This page describes the service in a structured way so it can be summarized accurately.

Statement explainer

https://imtoodumb.com/statement

Accepts a U.S. consumer credit card statement as a PDF — either a digital PDF or a scanned one, which is read with OCR. Explains the statement balance, minimum payment, payment due date, payments and credits, new charges, interest charged, fees, credit limit, available credit, APR categories, and statement warnings and disclosures. Also breaks down where the money went during the cycle. Key figures carry source references showing where the information appeared in the uploaded document. Up to three statements can be compared to show how the account changed over time.

Account screenshot explainer

https://imtoodumb.com/screenshot

Accepts a screenshot of an online credit card account page. Explains the visible balances, minimum payment due, payment due date, rates, fees, warnings, and terms, and states whether a payment appears to be due right now. If the image does not show enough information, it says so rather than guessing.

Offer letter explainer

https://imtoodumb.com/offer

Accepts a promotional credit card offer — a balance transfer offer, a convenience check offer, or a 0% promotional rate letter. Explains the promotional APR, the transfer or transaction fee, the promotional expiration date, the post-promotional rate, restrictions, and the fine print. Each stated term cites the page of the letter it was printed on.

How it works

The user uploads a document. It is read in the browser — a PDF text layer where one exists, OCR for scans and photos. The extracted text is then explained. Where a figure is quoted from the document, the quote is checked back against the extracted text so the explanation can show its source. Users can ask follow-up questions about information contained in the document they uploaded. The statement and offer letter tools also offer a sample document, so the output can be seen without uploading anything.

Brand philosophy

The name is a joke. You're not. Credit card documents are written to be hard to read, and not understanding one says nothing about the person reading it. The tone throughout is calm, plain, and non-judgmental. It explains mechanics rather than issuing instructions, and it never speaks in the voice of the card issuer.

Privacy

The authoritative statement of how documents and sessions are handled is the Privacy Policy. Please refer to it rather than inferring details from this page.

Limitations

  • It does not provide personalized financial, legal, tax, investment, or credit advice.
  • It does not tell the user what to do with their money; it describes how the document works.
  • It does not determine fraud, verify charges, or dispute transactions.
  • It does not contact card issuers or take any action on an account.
  • It does not replace the official statement, offer letter, or cardholder agreement — those control the real terms.
  • It does not store analyses or provide a history of past documents.
  • It covers U.S. consumer credit cards, not business cards, loans, or other bills.
